Is It Summer Vacation Yet?
"See, here's the thing..."
School has begun and so has the madness. As I mentioned in my last blog posting, I have been getting up early to go run (around 6:30 am) prior to having to be at school at 8:30ish. Now that the kids have returned to school, I have to be at school by 7:30ish...so when am I running now? At 5:30 am!!!! Good grief! I am NOT a morning person, so getting up at this hour is a huge struggle. I did well yesterday morning, but today was a different story. In fact, I woke up, than went back to sleep with the excuse that I have karate tonight so I didn't want to work out twice!

On the plus side, yesterday's early morning run was quite memorable. I was able to watch the lunar eclipse. It was really cool, and the longer I ran the more it changed. I have never seen a lunar eclipse before...as I said before, I am NOT a morning person. So, this was an experience that I am thankful for since I will probably never experience it again...no I don't plan on continuing to run at 5:30 am after my marathon is over!

While I am not a big fan of the early morning runs, I do feel like my Sunday morning long runs are going well. I have now successfully completed 15 miles! Go me! I also managed to impress a Tech football player on my long run..which was really cool. I had already run 13 miles and ended up at the park near my house for a few laps around the track. I was down to one 8 oz. bottle of water and was extremely thirsty...after all, I had only run 13 miles. The first water fountain I went to didn't work, so I headed to the water fountain at the playground. A rather large gentleman was already there with his sweet dog. He saw the look on my face and allowed me to go ahead of him. Unfortunately, that water fountain didn't work either. So, we began to talk about the water I had left, which led to how many miles I had already run, and how many I had left to run. He was a little shocked when I told him I had to run 15 that day. However, he was impressed with the mileage and the fact that I was training for a marathon. It made me feel good that a collegiate athlete was impressed with my athletic abilities...no matter how slow I might be.

My fundraising is also going in spurts. We held a bake sale at Sam's on Sunday and earned a little over $200. We plan on doing this again on Friday, and finally at the local Harvest Festival. I am also hoping that we can get some great business donations (both monetary donations and raffle donations). If I can get enough raffle donations, then I plan to sell raffle tickets. We have a $40 gift card from Wal-Mart, and some free appetizers for Joe's Crab Shack right now, but that's really not enough for a good raffle. Hopefully we'll get some more. :-)

School is also very busy....I haven't had a spare moment in my office to work on the paperwork side of my job. I have been loading programs and troubleshooting all day, every day. So, I spend most evenings sitting at the computer. In addition, I am childless at school now. Ty went to middle school and Ry decided to attend the elementary where my mom and sister teach. It is home school though, and all of his baseball friends and neighbors attend that school. He decided that he wanted to go where his friends went, and how could I say no? Two baseball friends are in his class, and I think that he really enjoys it there.

Ty, on the other hand, had a difficult day today. She lost her binder....HUGE DEAL for her. She couldn't find it in her locker this morning, and it really upset her. My sweet friend Ashley, the c-tech there, called me to let me know and so I could talk to Ty. We never did find that binder despite Ty and Ashley searching the campus, and us searching the house. Thanks for taking care of Ty, Ashley! :-)

My Weekly Running Update:
I don't even know...I have been so busy at school that I haven't had time to really log my miles. I do know that my long runs have been between 12 and 15 miles over the past few weeks, and I usually run about 5 miles on 3 other days of the week, so you do the math. :-)

Running and School Just Don't Mix!
"See, here's the thing..."
It's been about 3 weeks since I last posted...so sorry. As you know, we were on vacation for 3 weeks. I returned late Friday night/early Saturday morning, then I went back to school that Monday. If you are in the education business, you will know that the beginning of school is absolute CRAZINESS! Therefore, not much has been done personally here at home in the past week and a half.

Anyway, on to a running update. First of all, you will see a decrease in my mileage. This is for several reasons:
1.) The training mileage set by our coach finally caught up to the long run mileage that we were at. So, I am now following the training schedule designed by my coach.
2.) I was definitely overtraining beforehand. During the summer, I can usually handle this amount of training because I don't have to squeeze other "work stuff" in. But during the school year, I have to watch myself. I also noticed an increase in my performance and a decrease in the amount of exhaustion that I experienced after a long run when I followed the coach's schedule. So...I decreased the number of days that I run from 5 to 4, and also decreased the number of miles that I run on those days. BUT, my long run mileage is gradually increasing.
3.) School has officially begun...for me at least. Therefore, I must choose when I run. I have discovered that I am worthless if I try to train after school. It is still WAY too hot for me to run then, and my legs are pretty much shot by that time anyway. So, I have to get up around 5:30 to get my runs in. It's DARK outside at 5:30 am! Because it's dark, it's also SCARY! With that in mind, my runs have gotten a little shorter so I don't have to stay out quite so long. With all of that being said, I just want to say that running and school just don't mix!

Now, on to the good news about my running. My mileage is now increasing past 10 miles on my long runs and I am handling them really well. I ran 12 miles 2 weeks ago, and 13 on Sunday. I have discovered that I do better when I eat a Luna bar before hand as opposed to a banana, and eat GU at about mile 7. Those two things seem to get me through. Another motivation for 13 miles was my 13th anniversary on the 13th! :-)

Running Update:
Since it's not Sunday, I'll just give you my monthly total and overall total.
Monthly Total: 51.4 miles
Overall Total: 504.3 miles
